Like plastic, polystyrene is difficult and expensive to recycle
(and can only be used in low grade plastics) and may give off
toxic fumes if incinerated. In the sea it breaks down into
small pieces which float on the surface of the water or
accumulate at the tideline and which are readily consumed by
