Sizewell Scud imagines the impact that over a decade of Sizewell C construction will have on air quality in this area. Impacts include 10,000 extra vehicle journeys/day, shipping, diesel generators for a desalination plant, the dust of its excavations and creation of 35 meter high ‘spoil piles’.
Thousands of people die from air pollution every year in the UK with small particulates (PM2.5) - generated, for example, by vehicle exhausts and road, brake & tyre wear - being particularly dangerous as there are no safe levels for exposure to PM2.5.
East Anglia also suffers at times from high ground level ozone  pollution during summer heatwaves, which are typically  higher than anywhere else in the country.
Sizewell C construction traffic, in particular, poses a huge additional risk to local people’s health, particularly to children living or going to school near the A12 and other roads leading to Sizewell, and to the elderly and the sick.
